The long service life of presses in practice generally only applies to the mechanical parts. The press control is subject both to wear and tear, and changes in safety requirements.For economic reasons, it often appears sensible in this connection to replace an ageing control system with a modern safety control. Under no circumstances may an old contactor control used with conventional safety relays be replaced by a standard SPC, as presses come under safety category 4.
The Pilz safety controls we have installed monitor and control (for example via light barriers or light curtains) access to the press area and guarantee safe cut-off in the event of risk. We integrate tried and tested software components for the control of the press functions, such as cam controller or press safety value. The safety component of the control system works on a diverse multi-channel basis. Safety-oriented units are controlled via multichannel bus, while standard units use single-channel bus.
